Fashion Do's and Don'ts from 2022 & 2023

Fashion Do's and Don'ts from 2022 & 2023

In case you missed it, New York Fashion Week just finished, and it was a true inspiration. There were many different looks, some questionable and some truly transcendent. After seeing some of the creations, it got us thinking at Anthony Veer, what are some of the best and worst looks that the end of 2022, and the beginning of 2023 has brought us?

There’s one thing for sure - the rise of the early 2000s style has been a massive influence for the last few months. For those born in the ‘80s and ‘90s, you’ll probably be experiencing some déjà vu. Thankfully, some of those more unsavory trends have stayed in the past. *cough shrugs, emo hair, tights and skirts, cough*. Here are looks we have been digging into and some we wish died in the past.

Love it: Tennis skirts

A cute tennis skirt can add a feminine touch to your outfit and can be paired with just about any sneaker or platform sandal. We’ve seen a significant uptake in tennis skirts, and we are here for it! Our favorite is from Alo; they are cute and flirty. Pair them with Anthony Veer’s Maja Platform Sandal for a fun little lift to keep your calves looking great!

Hate it: Low-rise jeans

This is absolutely the worst fashion trend - low-rise jeans. We’re having flashbacks to butt crack hanging out whenever someone bends over. Who needs to see that? And, unless you have killer abs or are just naturally blessed with a slender body, low-rise jeans show everything, and we mean everything.

Love it: Block colors

What’s not to love? A pop of color can brighten anyone's day, and block colors also bring a fashion-forward touch to your outfit. This addition is excellent for men and women alike too!

Hate it: Faux leather leggings

We’re about to say a controversial comment, so brace yourself... Leggings are out. They have been around for long enough. Go to most European countries, and you won’t find them there. Why? The new trend of faux leather leggings should die with leggings.

We understand what you’re thinking, “but what about the ‘90s?” and we agree. We’ve also seen an uptake in 1990’s fashion for the last few years and we expect it to be in full force for 2023.

Love it: Frilly/ lace socks with penny loafers

This is something we can get behind; thick sole penny loafers with frilly socks. They add the perfect blend of femininity and punk rock vibes. What’s not to love? Our favorite pair of penny loafers are the Megan Penny Loafers by Anthony Veer and we also love these socks by Princess Polly!

Hate it: Bike shorts

Originally made for gym rats, bike shorts have made a major comeback in a flurry for athleisure wear. And, we have to admit, it’s not surprising. They are super versatile and comfortable. This trend was definitely cute at first but it has been played out. This unoriginal piece has been a frequent staple of basic girls' closets for years and it’s time to say goodbye.

Love it: Transparent bags

Transparent bags have been gaining popularity and we are here for it! They go with most outfits and add a spunk that can bring your full ensemble to life.

Hate it: Balaclava

The Balaclava is a new trend beloved trend that should fizzle out right away. What a horrible look? It’s not chic to hide your face away.

And our personal favorite, the brand new influence of gender fluid fashion. Breaking the boundaries of conventional expression, this new age trend puts earlier styles to shame.

Love it: Sheer shirts

Sheer shirts, pants, dresses and everything in between are super popular in 2023. With such versatile capabilities, this trend is great for all ages, body types and more. Showing the perfect amount of skin, while hiding away anything you might be self conscious about, this trend is both hip and flattering!

Hate it: Bejeweled crocs

It’s not classy, it’s not stylish, it’s just bad! Crocs are great for cottage life or wearing at home to do house work. They should not leave those areas. So, why “dress up” your crocs? Let’s leave crocs in the past and move on!

Love it: Extreme makeup - eyeliner just below the eyebrow

Brought on by the Europia craze, the extreme makeup look with eyeliner shaping your eye just below the eyebrows is something you can see more and more from Fall 2022 into Spring 2023 and we are all for it! This minimalist look add a bold flair to your ensemble and makes all the difference.

Hate it: Skull/sailor cap

Who wants a tiny hat that doesn’t keep your ears warm when you’re out in the cold? Not us! This trend has transcended generations and genders which we are all for but the trend itself… no thank you! Whenever someone wears a skull cap, all that comes to mind is Bill Murray in ‘The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou’.
